As Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld,and Rice were fixing their tuxedos or evening gowns for the evening's festivities, others were "enduring freedom" at a higher price. Not in the posh galas of Washington, but in the streets of DC. |

Jazz Funeral for Democracy |

Hundreds of people came out in New Orleans to protest the second Inauguration of George W. Bush on January 20th. They held a "jazz funeral for democracy." A brass band led the way as they paraded throgh the French Quarter with sign and banners calling attention to the War in Iraq, poverty, prisons, and other social ills being worsened by the Bush administration. |

Pensacola Vets Say 'No' to War |

The Pensacola Chapter of the group Veterans for Peace held a day of protest this past Saturday. Nearly one hundred people of all ages, some in uniform, gathered on the corner of Palafox and Garden St to hold signs and wave at traffic. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful protest! Way to go Pensacola! |

Movement for Change To hold rally against domestic violence |

The civil rights organization Movement for Change will hold a rally against domestic violence at 2 p.m. on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Rally Against Domestic Violence: Everyone Deserves to Be Safe is part of the organization's current campaign against violence in our streets and in our homes. In November, Movement for Change lead a march to raise awareness about domestic violence. In October, the organization sponsored a march and rally against police brutality.
The rally will be at Greater Union Baptist Church, 1300 N Guillemard St. Speakers will include Sue Han, director of Favor House women's shelter, and the Rev. Hugh King, pastor of Greater Union. |
